Project Brief
The house was required to provide three bedrooms, study, kitchen/family/meals and separate sitting room plus bathrooms, laundry and double garage. The suburban site had an area of approximately 670 sqm and the design was required to manage a fall across the site of approximately 3.0 metres.

Design Response
The house is conceived as three elements: bedrooms, living areas and garage. The entrance separates the single storey bedroom wing from the two storey volume housing living areas. The garage is accessed via internal stairs and is expressed as the third major volume of the composition.
The solid south wall punctuated by window openings is in contrast to the predominantly glazed character of north-facing walls.
The upper storey of the living wing contains an open plan kitchen/meals/family room. An elevated terrace provides panoramic views from the upper floor. The lower storey contains a large study and service areas of bathroom, laundry, store and access to the garage.
The pitched roof over the living zone of the house contrasts with the flat roofs elsewhere and denotes this as the principal zone of the house.
The bedroom wing is provided with a sinuous deck with direct relationship to the rear garden.
